This online event will support educators in exploring how trauma-informed practice can be integrated into clinical legal education.
About this Event

P hase 2: Developing trauma informed legal practice education:

In providing a framework and shared language, the workshop will hold space for initial reflections on the importance of being trauma-informed within the clinic setting. Workshop facilitator, and trauma-informed practitioner, Dr Nikki Lester will share best practice approaches to embedding trauma-informed frameworks, using the 6 principles of trauma informed practice. This will include development of useful frameworks and tools which we, as educators, can implement in our own clinics.

This online, half-day event builds upon on an initial workshop held in UCL in January 2024 (Phase 1), where legal educators developed their understanding of the impact of trauma and how it may present within clinical legal education.

The aims of this Phase 2 workshop are to develop a deeper understanding of trauma-informed practice; explore how trauma-informed principles can be integrated into clinical legal education; and consider next steps for the Trauma Informed Clinical Legal Education Network (TiCLE).

The workshop will focus upon:

  • Building confidence
  • Creating a framework and shared language
  • Outlining the process which educators can follow in becoming trauma informed.
  • Provide tools to support development of trauma-informed clinical legal education.

Participants of the workshop will also be invited to submit expressions of interest to join the Trauma Informed Clinical Legal Education Network.

For those interested in attending, we strongly encourage potential participants/members to complete a free online training course up to and including the gold level. This is an 8 week course, which releases 30 minutes of content a week (or can be completed at your own pace) and which will provide a useful scaffold for the focus of the workshop.
