DEVELOPING COACHES AND PLAYERS IN ELITE FOOTBALL

The seminar “Developing Coaches and Players in Elite Football” provides a unique opportunity for attendees to gain insight into how elite academies and professional clubs develop both coaches and players within high-performance environments.

Delivered by James Gow and Tom Culshaw, the session draws on extensive experience from elite academy systems and senior professional football.

James Gow, formerly of the Liverpool FC Academy; Technical Director at Al Jazira FC; and Sporting Director at Aalborg BK. James will share insights into long-term player development, academy structures, and how clubs build environments that consistently produce high-level players. His experience working within one of the world’s leading academies provides valuable lessons on how coaches can support the technical, tactical, and personal development of young players.

Tom Culshaw developed his coaching career within the Liverpool FC Academy before moving into senior football. He has held first-team coaching roles at Rangers FC, in the Scottish Premier League; Aston Villa FC in the English Premier League, and Al Ettifaq FC in the Saudi Pro League.
Drawing on his experiences working alongside some of the biggest names in world football, Tom will provide a detailed breakdown of In-Possession Principles of Play, explaining how top teams structure their attacking play and how coaches can apply these ideas within their own training environments.

Throughout the seminar, attendees will explore how elite clubs connect academy development with the demands of first-team football. Coaches will gain practical insights into designing effective training environments, improving their own coaching practice, and helping players develop technically; combined with increased tactical understanding and decision-making required at the highest levels of the game.

By attending, coaches will leave with practical ideas, elite-level insights, and clear strategies they can apply immediately to better support the development of their players and elevate the quality of their coaching.
