This engaging STEM class introduces students to foundational forensic science concepts through hands-on, age-appropriate investigations and guided experiments. Students will step into the role of young detectives as they learn how scientists use observation, evidence, and reasoning to solve problems.Throughout the week, students will explore beginner-friendly forensic science topics such as fingerprint analysis, chromatography, pattern recognition, observation skills, and simple scientific testing. Each activity is designed to build critical thinking and encourage careful observation through structured, instructor-led investigations.
Students will participate in guided experiments including examining fingerprints, separating colors through chromatography, analyzing clues, and recording observations to form simple conclusions based on evidence. Collaboration and problem-solving are emphasized throughout each session.
The course also includes a guest speaker presentation from a local law enforcement officer introducing students to real-world applications of forensic science and investigative careers.
