Aimed at community advocates and professionals in transport/ public space, this course will explain the key concepts that need to be understood to deliver good infrastructure for bike riders and how to apply technical guidance to achieve the best results.The workshop session will include:
* introduction to the traffic engineering environment
* grounding in current Australian best practice
* operating characteristics of bicycles
* key issues, particularly when mixing with other modes.
This will be followed by a practical site visit of approx. 2 hours. For safety reasons, this is limited to 14 and needs to be booked separately. (A bike and riding competency are assumed; but contact [email protected] [[email protected]] if you need to borrow a bike.)
Course instructor Dick van den Dool has worked for four decades at the coal face of cycling infrastructure development in NSW, including co-authoring the 2003 NSW Bicycle Guidelines used by government and industry for over 20 years. He has developed and delivers a two-day TfNSW training course and a University short-course for transport professionals; the content presented will be tailored for South Australian conditions.
