Welcome to the Language Walk! Please note that this is not a guided tourist city walk, but rather a completely free, walking language exchange. The experience depends entirely on the wonderful mix of people who join us. Typically, our participants range from 20 to 60 years old and speak anywhere from two to twenty languages—though speaking just one or two is perfectly fine. People of all ages are more than welcome, with the understanding that everyone participates at their own risk and assumes responsibility for themselves. We will be walking at a leisurely pace for about 2 to 3 kilometers, so a basic level of mobility is all you need. To keep the conversations fresh, we form small language groups and switch them up every 20 minutes or so. We usually practice Chinese, German, Spanish, Taiwanese, French, and English, and we are especially hoping to meet some participants who might be able to teach us a few words in Sorbian!
Date and Time: we meet on Sunday, 14th of June at 09.30 am at the Herzogin Garten in Dresden.
Our Roots in Taiwan: The vast majority of our Language Walk activities take place in Taiwan, where this community originated. On a typical walk there, the group is an even mix: 50% Taiwanese locals and 50% international residents who call Taiwan home. Through these walks, we have had the chance to learn bits and pieces of many different languages. Our community is incredibly diverse; many participants work in the tech industry, organize events, conduct university research, or work as translators and language teachers. However, the walks are radically open to absolutely everyone, regardless of age, background, or profession.
