50 Years of Deep Roots: The Vocalists!Yes indeed, the annual Deptford Dub Club, Reggae Mini-Festival will take place at The Fox and Firkin on 22nd June. This all day, multi-media festival, will begin outdoors, with a fully Family Friendly long afternoon, in the fabulous, extensive garden. Followed by Soundsystem style late evening session, inside. We’re thrilled to announce that this event will have 2 prestigious co-headliners, yet to be confirmed. One will finish the afternoon session. The other will finish the evening session inside.
The performers for this session are being curated by Soft Wax and Drop da Biscuit who will also be spinnin’. This event will be our second celebrating the glorious Deep Roots Reggae of the mid-1970s. This time we will be focusing on a range of key vocalists including: Dennis Brown, Johnny Clarke, Horace Andy and Gregory Isaacs. This inevitably involves the work of prominent producers and engineers of this golden age including: Bunny Lee, Niney, Lee Perry and King Tubby.
Early on, the afternoon in the garden will commence with a warm up selection from Mr.Wax. He’ll be followed by Vandorta; she’ll be familiar to anybody that frequents Sounds of the Universe and has performed here before at the D.D.C. and as part of the Soul Jazz Soundsystem. The vibrant Annabelle exudes positive vibes and can be relied upon to grace us with a scintillating Reggae Revive set, presented with style. She’ll be followed by Drop da Biscuit and he’ll be followed by our main headliner.
Following him there will be more of the semi-live action for which the Club is known. Soft Wax will be spinnin’ the rhythms. On the mic there will be singjay action, live and direct, from the mighty Doc Murdoc. There will also be live instrumentation from our fresh, new, Horn Section, featuring Tombone, Natty and Michael and featuring special guests. There’ll be extra special guest vocalists too.
We’re also looking forward to another blinding session from the great Prince Fatty on the desk, throughout the event. We expect this whole day to be one of our most memorable. Come on down, put on your dancing shoes and surrender to the rhythm.
