Denim Day: Turning Fashion Into a Statement 💙👖This April, we invite you to take part in a powerful movement that blends awareness, action, and community impact.
Join us for our Denim Day Event at Something Special Resale, where every donation, every purchase, and every pair of jeans tells a story of support for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.
👖 How You Can Get Involved

💙 Why We Wear Denim on April 29th
Denim Day is more than a trend—it’s a global movement rooted in justice.
It began after a deeply unjust ruling in Italy in 1992, where a court overturned a rape conviction based on the belief that because the victim was wearing tight jeans, she must have helped remove them—implying consent. This harmful reasoning became known as the “jeans alibi.”
In protest, women in the Italian Parliament wore jeans on the steps of the Supreme Court, sparking international outrage and action. The movement spread, including to the steps of the Capitol in Sacramento, where lawmakers stood in solidarity.
Inspired by this, Patti Occhiuzzo Giggans, Executive Director of Peace Over Violence, launched the first official Denim Day campaign in Los Angeles in 1999. Since then, it has grown into a worldwide symbol of protest against victim-blaming and harmful myths about sexual violence.
🌱 Be Part of the Movement
When you wear denim on April 29th, you’re making a statement:
There is no excuse for sexual violence. Ever.
When you donate and shop, you’re helping survivors rebuild their lives.
Join us. Stand with survivors. And help us turn awareness into action—one pair of jeans at a time. 💙
