About this Event
This demo night will provide an introduction to how 3D printing works and give participants the basic skills needed to borrow the 3D printer from the library.
We will cover the following topics:
- An overview of different additive manufacturing technologies, filament types, FDM printer types
- Different ways of creating a 3D model (creating it from scratch, as well as sources for free models available online)
- Preparing a file for printing
- Basics of printer troubleshooting & maintenance
Some resources will also be passed along to assist in further research into:
- 3D modelling software options
- Top 3D printers in different price ranges
- Sources for raw material (filament)
The topics above will be followed by a Q&A session to go through anything that hasn’t been covered. OTL's 3D Demos are run by an excellent facilitator team that usually includes Tom, Alex, and sometimes a mystery guest.
NOTES:
a) Workshops are transferable to another person and only refundable if we have people on the waiting list who can take your spot. Please make sure this date works with your schedule.
b) Member-rate tickets are reserved for current Ottawa Tool Library members. If a non-member registers at the member rate, we will follow up to collect the price difference plus a $15 administrative fee.
c) If you are registering for a young person, please note that children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult with a ticket for the same workshop. Children under the age of 13 are not permitted in many of our workshops (other than Tinkering School and some demo nights).
