Has your personal life been touched by dementia? If the answer is yes, then a House of Memories family and friends’ workshop is for you.
At the start of the session, you'll watch a series of videos featuring ‘real life’ scenarios which introduce you to our characters and their dementia journeys.
Following discussions about these scenarios, we’ll talk about the different ways in which you can support your loved ones who are living with dementia and learn about the importance of person-centred care.
As a museum-led programme, we focus on objects, archives and life stories, and how they can be used to communicate with people.
You’ll hear about different resources and activities you can use to support your loved one and give some of them a try. Resources covered include:
- The free My House of Memories app, which you can use at home to support communication and encourage conversations about the past
- Memory boxes, which can be filled with objects important to the person living with dementia
- Museum activities you can take part in, like memory walks
Our sessions are led by an experienced museum facilitator, however we want to hear about your experiences, so we encourage you to share anecdotes and stories with the group if you’d like to.
Each workshop runs between 11am-2.30pm, with registration starting from 10.30am. You must book in advance here https://www.liverpoolmuseums.org.uk/house-of-memories/dementia-awareness-workshops
Please note we also run separate sessions offering Dementia Training for Health and Social Care Professionals https://www.liverpoolmuseums.org.uk/house-of-memories/dementia-awareness-training
