About this Event
There is a common misunderstanding that having a diagnosis of dementia results in the person's inability to communicate. Biases and beliefs about dementia can be a barrier to providing appropriate care. There are other forms of communication which a person can respond to like touch, tone of voice, body language and facial features are some examples.
The ability to understand how the person sees us is important and positive responses can be achieved by using the technique that best suits patients and residents. This session also highlights the importance of having early conversations on how they would like to be cared for and documenting their wishes - Advance Care Plans, benefits for the individual and their families.
