Our dementia awareness training for health and social care professionals is aimed at staff working in the health, social care and housing sectors, who work with people living with dementia.
At the start of the workshop, you will watch a series of videos featuring ‘real life’ scenarios which introduce you to our characters and their dementia journeys.
Following discussions about these scenarios, we’ll talk about the different ways in which you can support the people you work with who are living with dementia, and you’ll learn about the importance of person-centred care.
As a museum-led programme, we focus on objects, archives and life stories, and how they can be used to communicate with people.
You’ll hear about different resources and activities you can use and give some of them a try. Resources covered include:
- The free My House of Memories app, which you can use in care settings and community spaces to support communication and encourage conversations about the past
- Memory boxes, which can be filled with objects important to the person living with dementia
- Museum activities you can take part in, like memory walks
Each workshop runs between 10am-1pm, with registration starting from 9.30am. You must book in advance here https://www.liverpoolmuseums.org.uk/house-of-memories/dementia-awareness-training
Please note we also run separate sessions offering training for family and friends of people living with dementia https://www.liverpoolmuseums.org.uk/house-of-memories/dementia-awareness-workshops
