Defense Against the Dark Arts: Dispelling Damaging (Civilian) Misconceptions About Veterans
In theory, veterans of the United States Armed Forces are revered, celebrated, and hailed as heroes. In practice, however, veterans often face lazy stereotypes and damaging misconceptions in spaces ranging from the college classroom to the corporate boardroom. These misconceptions threaten our understanding of who veterans are, what they most need, and the unique value they bring with them from military service.
Join R.J. Jenkins, Director of Education at the Columbia University Center for Veteran Transition and Integration, as he provides practical strategies for dispelling harmful typecasting of veterans, building stronger cultures of support for them, fostering a richer, more nuanced understanding of the veteran population, and becoming stronger allies and advocates for the service members and veterans in our own community.
Event is FREE, with RSVP requested. Limited seats available. Complimentary Prosecco will be served for guests 21+. For more information, please contact MCA at 352-369-1500.
