Lead bassist Phylicia Rae is a rapidly rising star in the smooth jazz genre stepping out in full force.
In 2023 Phylicia became the FIRST female lead bassist to ever reach Top 20 in the Billboard Smooth Jazz National Airplay Charts. She has been greatly influenced by the late great Wayman Tisdale.
Born and raised in Rochester,NY Phylicia Rae developed a love for music at an early age. She became a prominent figure in the music scene in Rochester, NY playing for different bands in the city.
Her first single as a solo artist "Just Like That" was released in September 2020, followed by her national debut with her second single "Told You So" which received steady airplay on national radio stations as well as internet radio across the country. Phylicia's third single "That's It" ferociously climbed the Billboard "New and Active" chart establishing herself as one of the young talented vanguards of the contemporary jazz genre.
In 2021 Phylicia Rae joined as the newest member of the group Jazz In Pink headed by Gail Johnson and signed to the Next Paradigm label. Since then she has shared the stage with many amazing artists in the smooth jazz genre such as Kim Scott and Jacob Webb. In 2022, Phylicia became co-founder of the jazz series "Next Paradigm Live", bringing in top jazz icons such as Lin Rountree, Marcus Anderson, Kim Scott, Phillip Doc Martin, Art Sherrod, and many others. Today Phylicia is breaking down the boundaries of this genre, inspiring younger female musicians that dreams can come true!
Named “one of our greatest treasures as a guitarist” by Najee and "amazingly talented" by Dave Koz, guitarist Blake Aaron returns with his fifth full length album "Color and Passion", on Innervision Records. Charging out of the gate with two #1 Billboard singles ("Fall for You" and "Groovers and Shakers") and one #1 single on the Radiowave / Groove Jazz charts for all of 2019 ("Drive"), Color and Passion is already feeling like a greatest hits record. National recording artist and saxophonist Dee Lucas has been noted as the hardest working indie artist in contemporary jazz while steadily growing his brand and fan base beginning with Remembrance in 2004. Thereafter, it has been a steady showcase of unique stylings with Something to Ride 2 (2007), Standing Room Only (2010), Rebirth of the Smooth (2012), The Smooth Factor (2014), Going Deeper (2016), The Sweet Spot (2017), Going Left (2018), and the critically-acclaimed The Time Is Now (2020).
Now, the saxophonist is back with a brand new album titled “No Boundaries” which marks his 10th release to date.
As as runner-up in the 2007 Capital Jazz Festival Competition, Dee Lucas has co-billed with an extensive number of artists such as Boney James, Norman Brown, Ronnie Laws, Nnenna Freelon, Hugh Masekela, Gregg Karukas, Peter White, Nick Colionne, Michael Franks, Peabo Bryson, Miki Howard, The Mahattans, and Howard Hewett just name a few. He has performed at several jazz festivals such as The Arizona Jazz Festival, The Jacksonville Jazz Festival, The Savannah Jazz Festival, The Atlanta Jazz Festival, The Myrtle Beach Jazz Festival, Low Country Jazz Festival, Tulsa International Jazz Festival, & the Apopka International Jazz Festival.
“The Time Is Now” marked his his 9th worldwide release and is arguably considered his best work to date. It featured some of the brightest producers and special guest artists in Adam Hawley, Blake Aaron, Darryl Williams, David P. Stevens, Lew Laing, Jr., Gino Rosaria, & George Freeman. “The Time Is Now” was positioned on several music charts including the Billboard Top 20 Smooth Jazz charts with the hit single ‘Full Tilt’. It also was nominated for the Indie Soul Smooth Jazz Album of the Year award.
In 2022, Lucas released two singles titled ‘Hot Ice’ featuring keyboardist Gino Rosaria and ‘Sir Dee’ (a musical salute to legendary Stevie Wonder).
Both singles hit #1 on several smooth jazz charts and has become an instant fan favorites. These two hits are on his 10th album “No Boundaries” that releases on March 10, 2023. The current hit single in the smooth jazz format is titled ‘Stay Strong’ which features the talented bassist Blair Bryant. In addition to his current smooth jazz offering, Lucas released another single (5/5/23)on the R&B format called ‘Love Is Enough’ which features the amazing vocal stylings of Selina Albright.
