Dedication of the Windows with the Dean of Canterbury
Come join us for a special event at St. John's Shaughnessy Anglican Church as we celebrate the dedication of two beautiful windows.
The Most Reverend John Stephens, Archbishop of the Diocese of New Westminster, Metropolitan of the Ecclesiastical Province of British Columbia and Yukon, and The Very Reverend Dr David Monteith, Dean of Canterbury Cathedral, will be celebrating.
Witness the intricate details and vibrant colours of the Canterbury glass that bring these windows to life, which is combined with specially commissioned stained glass designed and installed by local master craftsman John and Laura Gilroy.
New Mass
The Shaughnessy Mass, commissioned by the Parish of St John's, Shaughnessy, reflects on the past 100 years since the parish's founding while looking forward to the next 100. Composed in the year 2025, this communion service sets a 475-year-old text to music that will be heard this year and, God willing, for years to come. Drawing on the influences such as Anglican staple Herbert Howells and Estonian mystic Arvo Pärt, McGregor draws out the pangs of the human condition: painting our sins with unease, our supplications with insistence, our future with uncertainty, and God with mystery. As we encounter this music in our liturgy, we are drawn viscerally into every aspect of our relationship with God, asking us to ponder who we are and what we truly believe.
