An introduction to making decorative elements in plaster.
About this Event

This taster day will allow participants to try their hand at making decorative plaster elements which can be applied to traditional interiors. You will gain knowledge of the appropriate materials and processes needed to make a decorative rosette from design through to completion, which you can take home on the day. All materials, PPE, and lunch, tea and coffee will be provided. No experience necessary!


Who should attend?

This workshop is for anyone who has an interest in plasterwork. The session would be useful to a variety of attendees, from enthusiasts to those who are interested in specifying interior repair and restoration. No construction experience is required, and you will be guided by experienced craftspeople with a wealth of experience working both on historic private homes and public buildings.

Important information for attendees:

This event is limited to a maximum of ten attendees to maximise safety and opportunities to learn from the craftspeople. Please be aware that this taster day is taking place in a working depot. Attendees should wear sensible footwear, and it is advised that attendees wear warm clothing/ layers as the workshop can be cool. PPE will be provided, however you may wish to bring overalls to protect your clothing.

Getting here:

There is limited parking at the depot, and participants are encouraged to take public transport wherever possible. The depot is located next door to Moira Train station, which has frequent trains to/ from Belfast. If attendees will require a car at the depot, please contact the event organiser to allow monitoring of car parking availability.


Trainers Overview:

The sessions will be led by experienced and skilled craftspeople from Historic Environment Division Moira Works Depot, who are responsible for maintaining and repairing Northern Ireland’s historic state care monuments.

Historic Environment Division within the Department for Communities is the government lead on the historic environment of Northern Ireland.
