About this Event

Brigstow is proposing a new book series to Bristol University Press (BUP) focusing on interdisciplinary/ trans-disciplinary research. Each book will focus on a specific theme. University of Bristol research teams who have completed an interdisciplinary research project on this theme will be invited to contribute a chapter to the book.

We are aware that books are not the primary mode of publication for all disciplines and so will be using the series to explore ways of integrating alternative formats and modes of interdisciplinary writing in printed and online book formats, in order to be inclusive to different ways of publishing.

We are holding three workshops during May to explore this further, each framed around the following, broad themes. These are not prescriptive and inevitably there will be overlap, but we hope these workshops will stimulate discussion.

The three workshops are:

Decoloniality and materiality, Thursday 21st May, 10:30 – 13:00, Cotham House Room 0.16 - to include, for example, challenging established practices, museum and archival practices, histories (reserve a spot in this Eventbrite listing)

Environmental pasts and futures,– Friday 22nd May, 10:30 - 13:00, Cotham House, Room 0.16 - to include, for example, place-based research, food systems and justice, activism (Reserve a spot)

Intersectionality and equity, Thursday 28th May, 13:30 – 16:00, Arts Complex G50 - to include, for example, culturally-appropriate health practices, gender, disability, LGBTQ+, class, age (Reserve a spot)

Lunch will be provided.

We can offer payment for the time of team members who don't have university contracts. However, it is important to note that there isn’t funding to support their time contributing to the chapter itself at a later date.

Context:

Chapters in each book will be case studies of co-produced research and reflect on how to do this type of research, including the challenges when people from different disciplines come together on interdisciplinary projects and the steps taken to resolve issues. The aim is to share a range of ‘real-life’ working examples to further the range and ambition of interdisciplinary research. The book series would be a vehicle for showcasing research that is innovative, takes risks and works in really radical interdisciplinary ways.

We’d love to invite you along to share your project and ideas. No preparation is required.
