Deciduous Dental Extractions for Dental Therapists

Aim:
To enhance knowledge and clinical confidence in treatment planning for deciduous extractions through an anatomy refresher, review of local anaesthesia principles, and hands-on practice using forceps and luxator techniques.

Learning Objectives
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

• Apply improved knowledge of anatomy relevant to deciduous teeth to support safe and effective treatment planning.
• Refresh and correctly apply local (XLA) anaesthesia principles for paediatric extractions.
• Identify appropriate indications and contraindications for deciduous tooth extraction.
• Select and use forceps and luxators appropriately for deciduous extractions.
• Demonstrate safe and effective extraction techniques through hands-on practice.
• Anticipate and manage common challenges and complications associated with deciduous extractions.
• Increase clinical confidence in planning and performing deciduous extractions in practice.
