Community Days at MeliaPottery are times get to know other creatives and connect with other families. Our aim is to have times of raku firings and/or other crafts, times of worship throughout the day, and end with a shared meal and meaningful discussions. We want to highlight other like-minded families and their businesses, so there may be info tables with things for sale, from music and merch to teas and chocolates.There is never a cost to attend a community day!! We invite everyone to come and enjoy the day with us. We will typically have free crafts like drawing and watercolor materials available. Other optional crafts may be available, depending on the day, and can be paid for on site.
Raku firings - weather permitting we will have the raku kiln ready to fire. These are always fun to watch! Students are welcome to bring work that has been bisque-fired to glaze and include in the raku. If you want to fire a piece and don't have one, we'll have bisque-fired work available for purchase.
Bring lawn chairs and plan on hanging out for a while. We'll do a pot-luck style dinner around 6pm, so bring a dish to share or bring food for your family if you have food sensitivities. After dinner we want to start up conversations about creativity and Jesus. "What if I'm not a Christian or don't follow Jesus? Can I still come? Will it be weird?" It might be weird for some people even if they do believe in Jesus. Sometimes it might be weird for us. We don't want weirdness to stop us from deep, meaningful conversations. Our goal isn't to convince anyone of anything in these times. It's to open up dialogue and get people thinking. If you're up for that, we'd love to have you - regardless of background or belief.
