Overview:
Sex and intimacy are deeply embedded within broader systems, including individual psychology, couple dynamics, family history, and sociocultural contexts.
As a result, holding space for a systemic perspective is crucial and it often begins in therapy, from the mouths of therapists. Therefore, considering this perspective can be central to effectively addressing clients' concerns related to sex and intimacy.
In essence, I will be emphasizing the importance of moving beyond a purely individualistic or biological view of sex and intimacy, and instead adopting a holistic, systemic perspective in clinical practice.
Learning Objectives:
1. To identify and apply clinical strategies for addressing sexual and intimacy concerns within a systemic framework.
2. To enhance therapists' awareness of their own biases and cultural competence in relation to sex and intimacy.
3. To analyze the systemic influences on individuals' sexual and intimate experiences.
