Were you ever in debate club growing up? Or maybe you never joined but have always wished you had? Looking back on highschool you may think "wow I would be so much better at that now!" but unfotunately you made the mistake of becoming an adult and those sort of club activitelys just don’t exist anymore... but what if they did?
Debate Night at HQ is a monthly two hour, team based debate series led by Hannah Moore, a Richmond attorney who will moderate, set the rules, and keep everything fair and entertaining. Each month will start with a short, 30 minute lesson from Hannah on negotiation and communication. After that, you’ll break into teams and spend the next 30 minutes preping your arguments. Then face off for the next hour.
Topics will be non political and intentionally fun. Think philosophy, culture, and daily dilemmas, the kind of arguments that make you laugh. We know just how stressful the world has been as of late, so don't worry, these events are meant to be totally fun. Absolutely no expertise required. Debate champs and complete beginners are equally welcome. The point is to have a good time, learn a little, and maybe get way too invested in an opinion you never knew you had.
Debate happens in teams of five. We’re capping the event at 20 people so it stays structured, lively, and easy to participate.
Free for members, $20 for non members. We meet from 7 to 9 pm on the last Tuesday of each month at HQ.
