DEAR FRIEND I CAN NO LONGER HEAR YOUR VOICE Film Screening and Discussion

Originally commissioned for Creamer’s 2022 solo exhibition at the much-loved Sir John Soane’s Museum, this digital film reimagines a now-lost space within the museum: the bedchamber of Eliza Soane, who died suddenly and tragically in 1815.

Eliza’s death marked a profound rupture in John Soane’s life. He preserved her bedroom untouched for 19 years and wove private allusions to Eliza throughout the museum.Dear Friend… has a haunting soundtrack, which uses Soane’s own memoir of his grief at Eliza’s death to create a meditation on love and loss. Through a combination of photogrammetry, CGI animation, sound, voice and song, the film is an imagined recreation of Eliza’s bedchamber, and a reclamation of Eliza’s presence.

Anne-Marie Creamer’s work often explores encounters with overlooked, forgotten histories, using art as a form of spectral conjuring— and creating space for ethical remembering.

The film was co-produced with Gary Thomas, Co-Director of Animate Projects.

Anne-Marie Creamer
Anne-Marie is a visual artist based in London. She is a Senior Lecturer at Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London.

Dear Friend... has been exhibited at Sir John Soane’s Museum, 2022 - link; It was produced by Animate Projects, link; also was part of the exhibitionSiren by Nicola Feldman-Kiss’, curated by Karen Alexander, Koffler Centre of the Arts, Toronto, Canada; it was part of, , GOTH symposium, with Open University; it will soon be presented as part of Ghosts in Britain and Ireland, University of Limerick, Ireland, (June, 2025).

She features in the forthcoming book Home, Place, and Belonging Through Arts-Based Research, (Routledge).

Anne-Marie latest project, Ghost-Bodies, examines spinal neuroanatomy and numbness, using lived experience to reimagine embodiment and spatial perception.

Creamer studied at Middlesex University and the Royal College of Art. Her early career included impactful roles in London's 1990s artist-led scene and contributions to international galleries and publications. Awards include the Derek Hill Scholarship in Drawing at the British School at Rome, the Evelyn Williams Fellowship in Drawing (animation), Centre for Contemporary Art, Prague, and residencies and exhibitions at prominent arts institutions worldwide.
