About this Event
Holaaaaa Atlanta!
I'm so excited to bring you a small taste of what I have been doing in Mexico City the past three years as a student of folklorico dance. In my 6-day course you will be exposed to the basic, general and specific zapateado technique from the region of Veracruz, Mexico. Veracruz is the state with a heritage of eerie esoteric magic, black, white and indigenous cultural integration, folklore of sirens and pirates, the birth of many music styles, delicious cuisine, and other unique traditions from the coast. Come prepared to let go of expectations and let the music in as you embody generations of cultural wealth and knowledge.
What: We will prepare a small repertoire of 4-5 numbers to perform (optionally) for loved ones at the end of the course. You will learn La Bruja, El Colas, El Jaqueton, La Bamba as well as how to do traditional hair from profesional hair stylists and Catrina makeup for Día de Los Muertos.
When: Week of October 19 and 26.
Who: Women + people who want to learn skirt work over the age of 18.
How much: The cost of the course is $95 which includes the cost of the shoes and a practice skirt ($35) and $15 per class of dance even though the course is designed for 6 days of experience total. In order to secure your spot I have priced the ticket at $35 to cover the cost of the shoes I will bring from Mexico and to allow payment installations leading up to the event (thru Zelle and Venmo). If you would like to pay the full price up front or have more questions, feel free to contact me at [email protected] or via whatsapp +52 55 3837 3967.
Please consider carpooling with a friend as there is limited free parking at the venue.
Suggestion: Come in all black athletic attire, hair pulled back in a bun neatly, an abanico (hand fan), and a small glass cup with a tealight and sand.
Parking: Free parking in the red lot and on the blue lines of the neighborhood streets (Pickens and Brownwood). Please do not parking in the empty lot by Raani coffee shop.
