Sunday 26/4/26 Magical Lanterns & Wonderful Windchimes10:30am-12:30pm & 1:30pm-3:30pm
Taking place at Wightwick Manor in their craft/conference room. Ask for directions as you arrive.
Throughout the day Wolverhampton glass artist Suzie from Suzie Lavender Contemporary Glass will be teaching two sessions of fused glass making techniques. You are welcome to attend either the morning or afternoon workshop or you can attend both sessions for the day at a discounted price. These workshops are suitable for beginners or as a refresher course. Your workshop ticket also entitles you to full entry to the Manor and Gardens, Café, Gallery and shop!
The schedule for the day is as follows:
Morning Session 10:30am-12:30pm: Wonderful Windchimes! In this workshop, you will design and create a hanging glass windchime set. You’ll be able to choose from a variety of glass shapes and components to plan your layout, then decorate them in the colour scheme you prefer. The session introduces basic glass fusing and layering techniques using coloured glass, along with an overview of the materials and tools involved. Each participant will make up to five hanging pieces, along with a top bar from which the finished chimes will be suspended.
Lunch (not provided) 12:30-1:30pm. Wightwick Manor has a café on site and many outdoors areas for enjoying a packed lunch in the fresh air if the weather suits.
Afternoon Session 1:30pm-3:30pm: Magical Lanterns! In this workshop, you will create your own fused‑glass lanterns panels, working with themes of your choice such as woodland and nature, the seasons, coastal influences, art deco patterns or garden flowers. You will learn basic glass fusing, cutting and layering techniques using coloured glass, and you’ll be introduced to a range of materials, paints and tools. Each participant will design, make and decorate glass panels to fit an Ikea lantern, which is provided. You will take your blank lantern home on the day, then collect your finished kiln‑fired panels from Wightwick two weeks later and fit them into your lantern at home.
Participants who are regular attendees of Suzie’s workshops are welcome to make different projects to save repetition if they contact Suzie in advance.
All creations will be kiln fired by Suzie following the sessions and then collection from Wightwick Manor (or postage of the work can be organised) from 14days later.
Places are limited and expected to book up very quickly. Suitable for adults and for teens age 13 and over, under 16's must be accompanied by a participating adult.
