Throughout the day Wolverhampton glass artist Suzie from Suzie Lavender Contemporary Glass will be teaching two sessions of hands on fused glass making techniques with a technical twist! You are welcome to attend either the morning or afternoon workshop or you can attend both sessions for the day at a discounted price. These workshops are suitable for beginners or as a refresher course. Your workshop ticket also entitles you to full entry to the Manor and Gardens, Café, Gallery and shop!
The schedule for the day is as follows:
Morning Session 10:30am-12:30pm: Shape, Cut & Create Workshop - Learn the core technical skills behind fused‑glass art in this focused 2‑hour workshop. You’ll get hands‑on with glass‑cutting tools, practice precision cutting techniques, and explore how to layer and assemble glass effectively.
With plenty of materials, accessories and guidance, you’ll design and build your own fused‑glass picture tile from scratch in the colours of your choice. Perfect for anyone wanting to deepen their technical abilities while creating something beautifully unique.
Lunch (not provided) 12:30-1:30pm. Wightwick Manor has a café on site and many areas for enjoying your lunch in the fresh air if the weather suits.
Afternoon Session 1:30pm-3:30pm: Platters & Curves Glass Design Workshop - Create a beautiful fused‑glass piece for your home in this engaging Platters and Curves workshop. You’ll learn about the art of glass slumping, how heat and moulds shape flat glass into elegant forms, before designing and building your own piece ready for firing.
Choose your project for this afternoon session on the day:
Platter – Design a unique fused‑glass dish in the shape and colour palette of your choice.
Curve – Create a flowing, wave‑shaped standing curve that looks stunning on a windowsill or shelf.
During the workshop, you’ll cut, arrange and assemble all the glass elements for your chosen design. You will have a wide range of glass accessories to choose from. Suzie will guide you through every step and will be on hand to assist, whether you’re completely new or bringing new skills from the optional morning session. After the workshop, your piece will be professionally slumped and fired for you, ready to collect once finished.
Craft a personalised artwork that’s both functional and eye‑catching — no prior experience needed!
All creations will be kiln fired by Suzie following the sessions and then collection from Wightwick Manor (or postage of the work can be organised) from 14days later.
