Emerging from Chicagoโs early house scene in the mid-1980s, Tyree helped define two of its most important movements. Alongside DJ Fast Eddie, he co-created Hip House, fusing hip-hop vocals with house rhythms and opening the door for genre-blending club records worldwide. At the same time, Tyree was pushing Acid House forward, helping shape its harder, jacking sound with raw drum programming and squelching 303 basslines.
Signed to DJ International Records, he released enduring anthems like Acid Over and Turn Up The Bass, the latter breaking into the UK charts in 1989. His work laid the groundwork for future styles like ghetto house and continues to influence dance floors today.
Still active as a producer, DJ, and label founder, Tyree Cooper remains a living link between Chicago houseโs raw origins and its future. We can't wait to introduce him to our DayFunk dance floor.
