🐴🌾🥾 Day Trip Hike: Chincoteague NWR + Wild Ponies (Relaxed Pace) March 22nd‼️Let’s take a fun East Coast Hikers day trip to Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge (VA side of Assateague Island). Expect easy, flat trails, beautiful marsh and coastal views, and a great chance to spot the famous wild ponies. This will be a relaxed, social pace with time for photos and quick breaks.
📅 Saturday, March 22, 2026.
⏰ Meet: 10:00 AM (start walking ~10:10).
🚗 Suggested VB departure: 7:15–7:30 AM (traffic + quick stop buffer).
💵 Entrance Fee: $10 per vehicle for a one-day pass. America the Beautiful federal lands pass is also accepted.

🚻 Bathrooms: Available at the Administrative Center starting at 10:00 AM.
🥾 Easy / Flat Trail Options (mix & match).
• Wildlife Loop — 3.2 miles.
• Black Duck Trail — 1.0 mile (connector).
• Woodland Trail — 1.6 miles.
• Lighthouse Trail — 0.25 mile (optional add-on).
🕒 Timing Note.
Wildlife Loop opens to vehicles at 3:00 PM (still walkable, just shared with cars after 3).
🏛️ Optional Lighthouse Add-On.
If the Assateague Lighthouse is open, we’ll stop by after the hike. Hours vary — call 757-336-3696 to confirm day-of.
🍽️ Optional Post-Hike Lunch.
Ropewalk (waterfront, casual, great views) — totally optional.
