Día de los Muertos | Day of the Dead In Mexico, Día de los Muertos is a time to remember and celebrate the lives of loved ones who have passed. It’s not a day of sorrow, but one of love, color, and connection. Families build altars (ofrendas) filled with photos, candles, marigolds, favorite foods, and cherished memories — believing that for a brief moment, the spirits of our loved ones return to visit.
Each offering holds meaning:
Candles light their way home.
Marigolds (cempasúchil) guide their spirits with bright color and fragrance.
Pan de muerto, water, and fruit nourish them after their long journey.
Photos and mementos honor those we love and keep their memory alive.
This year, Mila’s Authentic Flavor is starting an annual tradition of honoring our loved ones who have passed. Due to time constraints, we’ll be condensing our altar days to October 31st, November 1st, and November 2nd.
We invite our community to join us in remembrance — bring a photo or small offering of someone dear to you who has gone before us on Saturday November 1st from 5-8pm. Together, we’ll fill our altar with love, stories, and gratitude. Light refreshments will be offered to those that join us!
Let’s celebrate their lives, their love, and the way they continue to live on in us.
Location: The Kitchen Collective
Address: 429 2nd Street, Portsmouth, OH
Time: 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM on Nov 1st to set up your pictures. But everyone is welcome to visit the altar during the weekend.
