On May 9, 2026, members of VFW Post 1503, its Auxiliary, family members, friends, and community volunteers will participate in a community cleanup as part of the VFW Day of Service. With a goal of at least 30 participants, volunteers will gather at VFW Post 1503 and walk east along Minnieville Road, covering approximately two miles to the intersection of Dale Boulevard.
During the approximately three‑hour effort, participants will collect litter and debris to help improve the appearance, safety, and environmental health of this heavily traveled corridor. The project will be conducted in partnership with Keep Prince William Beautiful, reinforcing a shared commitment to civic pride and environmental stewardship. Support is also anticipated from various VFW subgroups, fellow veteran service organizations, and local youth programs.
Through this initiative, VFW Post 1503 will demonstrate its continued dedication to service beyond the Post, strengthening community relationships while living the VFW mission of Service Before Self.
Anyone interested in participating should arrive at VFW Post 1503 by 9:30 a.m. on May 9, with the cleanup scheduled to begin promptly at 10:00 a.m.
Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing appropriate for outdoor walking and closed‑toe shoes. Gloves, trash bags, and other cleanup supplies will be provided, though volunteers may bring their own work gloves if preferred. Participants should also consider bringing water, sunscreen, and a hat to stay hydrated and protected from the sun. Families are welcome, and all participants should be prepared to walk up to two miles while assisting with litter removal along the route. The organizer is also happy to sign off for volunteer hours after completion.
