Day of Mourning 2026 – Sacramento Vigil📍 California State Capitol – Rose Garden Memorial Area (Area 1)
🗓 March 1, 2026
⏰ 4:30 PM – 6:30 PM
Each year on March 1, communities across the country gather for the Day of Mourning to remember disabled people whose lives were lost to filicide and to affirm that disabled lives are valuable, worthy, and deserving of protection and dignity.
The Sacramento vigil will take place at the Rose Garden Memorial Area on the west side of the California State Capitol grounds. This will be a peaceful and reflective gathering.
Program:
• Welcome and acknowledgment
• Reading of names
• Moment of silence
• Brief closing reflection
This event is part of a national day of remembrance coordinated by the Autistic Self Advocacy Network (ASAN). Local communities gather to ensure the lives being remembered are not forgotten and that violence against disabled people is recognized and addressed.
This is a small, reflective gathering in accordance with permit guidelines.
Important:
Open flames and lighted candles are not permitted on State Capitol grounds. Battery-operated lights or flowers are welcome.
We ask attendees to help maintain a respectful and reflective atmosphere throughout the vigil.
Please share with those who may wish to join.
