About this Event
The dawn chorus is one of the delights of Spring, with birds of all feathers singing to welcome a new day. Wild Amersham is organising a Dawn Chorus walk on Saturday 3 May led by bird expert Simon Nichols and his colleague Mark. Come and learn lots about birds, their song and behaviour, and enjoy the peace of an early spring morning.
Simon started birding aged 11 and has not stopped since. His passion has taken him all over the world, but it is in the UK that he spends most of his days looking for birds. He is now based in Lincolnshire from where he runs bird ID skills workshops and does commercial and non-commercial bird surveys across the UK. Simon has an infectious way of sharing his love for birds, and we are sure you will hear, see and learn a lot on this walk.
The walk starts at Amersham Band at the corner of School Lane and Church Street. There is free parking, but please use sustainable transport if you can. It will be a very early start at 5AM – but definitely worth it! There will be croissants and coffee at the Band at the end of the walk. To cover our and Simon's costs we are charging £10 for this walk.
We will walk a short circular route at a calm pace from Amersham Band, taking in arable fields, farmland, gardens and hedges. Some of the paths are upwards, or can be uneven, so please wear sturdy shoes. Bring binoculars if you can. Children aged 6 or over who are happy to walk, stop often and listen quietly are very welcome. The walk is not suitable for dogs.
