Throughout history, people have heralded the rising of the sun with music. So, we begin our anniversary season with “Dawn,” music for the morning, including music from the matins (or morning prayer) liturgy. Works by Kyle Pederson, the Shakers, and a hymn by Benny Andersson (of ABBA fame!) complement traditional texts for the matins service: Psalm 100 (by Britten and Schütz), the Benedictus or Song of Zechariah (by Stanford and Melchior Franck), and the centerpiece of our concert, the Te Deum by American-Swedish composer Steve Dobrogosz.
