Join us for a powerful and unforgettable presentation with David R. Carrillo, whose life journey challenges assumptions about incarceration, education, and human potential. This event is FREE and open to the community.
Sentenced to life without parole, he spent more than 30 years in the Colorado Department of Corrections, including time in solitary confinement. While incarcerated, he pursued education relentlessly—earning multiple degrees and ultimately becoming the first incarcerated individual in the United States to be hired as a college professor, teaching business and economics at Adams State University.
In this upcoming presentation, Carrillo will speak candidly about:
His lived experience inside prison and in solitary confinement
How education became a pathway to purpose and leadership
The realities of incarceration and the impact on mental health, identity, and opportunity
What community college students, educators, and leaders can do to expand access, empathy, and second chances
This is more than a talk—it’s an opportunity to hear firsthand how resilience, accountability, and education can transform lives and communities.
Complimentary lunch included while supplies last and the first 50 students will receive an autographed copy of his memoir, “Kiko: From Life without Parole to Life with Purpose.”
