In March 2020, in the week before Covid restrictions, National Trust archaeologists and volunteers embarked on a quest to date the Cerne Abbas Giant. The archaeological fieldwork took place in the centenary year of the gift of this imposing and infamous chalk figure to National Trust. This is the story of what was found in the heart of the Dorset countryside, as the nation prepared for lockdown.
Speaker: Martin Papworth
Martin Papworth is an archaeologist for the National Trust, where he has worked for 37 years. He provides archaeological advice for National Trust properties in Gloucestershire, Somerset, Dorset, most of Wiltshire and the Killerton and Knightshayes estates in Devon.
Doors open from 1.30pm. Refreshments will be served following the talk. Tickets: £5 on the door. Free admission for members of Sherborne Museum.
