In March 2020, in the week before Covid restrictions, National Trust archaeologists and volunteers embarked on a quest to date the Cerne Abbas Giant. The archaeological fieldwork took place in the centenary year of the gift of this imposing and infamous chalk figure to National Trust. Martin Papworth is an archaeologist for the National Trust, where he has worked for 37 years. He provides archaeological advice for National Trust properties in Gloucestershire, Somerset, Dorset, most of Wiltshire and the Killerton and Knightshayes estates in Devon.
