The Jim Gibb Memorial LectureJoseph Rogers will explore the history of tithe barns – important historic buildings dotted across the British and European landscape. He will discuss the original purpose of these iconic structures, give a short overview of their architectural features, and show how their longevity is partly owed to adaptation for contemporary uses. The talk will touch on examples of local tithe barns, including those at Wyke, near Bradford Abbas.
Speaker: Joseph Rogers
Originating from the West Midlands, Joseph Rogers is a writer and historian specialising in travel in the UK and Europe. He is the author of 'Britain's Greatest Bridges' (2019), 'Tithe Barns' (2021) and 'Railway Enthusiasm in Twenty-First Century Britain' (2024), all published by Amberley Publishing.
