About this Event

DASH Risk Assessment Training - In Person Event

This workshop is aimed at front line practitioners who are working in Southampton with families and individuals impacted by domestic abuse, familial abuse and harmful practices such as ‘HBA’. It provides a detailed review of the Domestic Abuse, Stalking and Honour-Based violence (DASH) risk assessment tool is nationally recognised and is used by all local agencies except police to identify the level and type(s) of risk someone is facing, and to refer high-risk cases to Multi-Agency Risk Assessment Conferences (MARAC).

The DASH Risk Assessment training explores in detail:

  • That risk is always dynamic and how to record detail to ensure risk, impact and harm are clearly communicated.
  • The importance of professional curiosity and professional judgement in identifying risk.
  • The importance of contextual information alongside the yes/no questions.

The workshop also includes an overview of the Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) referral process in Southampton including MARAC and provide understanding of the role of the PIPPA Helpline. The police DARA risk assessment tool is explained and the multi-agency response for adults and children is explored.

Learners will:

  • Understand how to use the DASH Risk Model (2009) and the connection to early risk identification, intervention and appropriate referrals for support and intervention.
  • Examine specific risk factors of coercive controlling behaviour, 'Honour'-Based Abuse, economic abuse, non-fatal strangulation.
  • Relate DASH risk assessment to the homicide and suicide timelines.
  • Identify perpetrator patterns of behaviour and impact on victims.
  • Identify high risk factors including serial and multiple perpetration of abuse, stalking, etc.
