San Jacinto College Music and Dance proudly present the world premiere of Dancing on Steel May 3rd & 4th 2024. Showcasing fun and creative new arrangements of popular musical hits played by the SJC Steel Drum Band this program will first feature seven new musical arrangements of music familiar to audience members of all ages. Including music from current pop artists classic show tunes movie soundtracks and television hits it will spotlight high energy original choreography performed by the SJC Dance Performing Arts Company. The program’s second half is a suite of six steel band pieces influenced by Trinidad and Tobago’s West African origin - taking notes from Afro-French Creole dance wedding and funeral traditions the limbo and calypso and other cultural practices.
