About this Event
The Japanese Folk Dance Institute of New York presents DANCES OF WOVEN WATER, an immersive performance rooted in traditional Asian/Pacific dance practices, drawing inspiration from coastal and maritime rituals historically performed by sailors and seaside communities.
Through veiled forms, masked figures, and fluid, wave-like movement, the work explores the relationship between the human body and water — its beauty, power, and cultural symbolism. These dances, once carried across generations, are reinterpreted for a contemporary stage while maintaining their connection to heritage and storytelling.
