D-Town Farm Proudly Presents: The 18th Annual Harvest Festival: New Leadership & Renewed Commitment.
Whatupdoe? D-Town Farms, a cornerstone of the Detroit Black Community Food Sovereignty Network (DBCFSN), is thrilled to announce the 18th Annual Harvest Festival, a joyous celebration of community, food, culture, and empowerment. This year's event welcomes new co-Executive Directors Gi'Anna Cheairs and Dr. shakara tyler, ushering in a new era of leadership and dedication.
A Festival of Transformation:
This is more than a festival; it's a movement. Experience workshops, hands-on activities, live music, and a vibrant atmosphere that reflects the soul of sustainable food systems and community power.
Highlights:
● Healing Tent: Partnering with Alkebulan Village, this unique space will
feature the ADS Collective (acu-detox specialists continuing the work of Dr.
Mutulu Shakur and the Young Lords) and Deep Breaths and Heal (offering
yoga, meditation, and sound healing).
● Food & Fun: Savor delicious food, refreshing beverages, Upbeat live music
that will move your soul, and fun activities for all ages, including horseback
rides.
● Knowledge & Empowerment: Engage in workshops on sustainable
agriculture and healthy eating, and hear informative presentations by local
and global food justice leaders.
Building on a Legacy:
The festival showcases DBCFSN's transformative programs,
including Food Warriors (which empowers children with food justice knowledge)
and Food N' Flava (which cultivates leadership and entrepreneurial skills in teens).
D-Town Farm: This thriving 7-acre urban farm uses innovative techniques like hoop
houses, rainwater retention, and beekeeping to grow nutrient-dense food, extend
growing seasons, and train community members.
