About this Event
In Designing Justice + Designing Spaces’ design and development process, we are guided by the belief that “we go fast alone, far together.” What parts will each of us play in building a just future? We invite community members, neighbors, designers, and community organizations to gather for an afternoon of food, music, creativity, and collective imagination. Come participate in a facilitated community conversation in our circle space, sample food and products from local vendors, listen to some therapeutic sounds, play outdoor games, and build your own design with Sit-On-It Detroit.

About Designing Justice + Designing Spaces
We are an architecture and design firm working to end mass incarceration. Our work counters the adversarial and punitive architecture of justice—courthouses, prisons, and jails—by creating spaces for restorative justice, community building, and workforce development
DJDS is leading a community-driven development located at Grand River Avenue and 14th Street. Our long-term vision - which emerged from four years of engagement with justice-based organizations, systems-impacted individuals, and neighborhood stakeholders - is to build a social justice hub with commercial space for small businesses, nonprofits, and community uses. In the meanwhile, our Community Activators Board (CAB) of local Detroiters is co-creating pop-up events, installations, and more at the site.
