NVA Legacy are holding a short, informal ceremony at the War Memorial on 6th June, at 2.30 pm aiming to replicate the services that are held in cemeteries in France on pilgrimages to Normandy and we welcome SAFCO members to join us. It is informal in that we are not formally inviting the Mayor or guests of honour but there will be the NVA Standard (and others very welcome) and the service will end with Last Post and Reveille. We won't be using any seating except the benches that are usually in the War Memorial space. The service will be conducted by Paul Brearley and is likely to last 15 - 20 minutes (maximum). It will incorporate a scaled down soundscape borrowing the idea of the War Memorial centenary soundscape, but making it personal to Stockport Normandy veterans. Each person present (if they are willing to do so) will read our a number of names at a designated time in the service. These names will be distributed on individual slips as people arrive, thus replicating how these ceremonies run in Normandy, where we name those who should not be forgotten.
Following the service there will be light refreshments in the West gallery.
