Hello Marauders!Back by popular demand; this week's walk is going to be led by Jon around some historic Merthyr landmarks.
Walking in the footsteps of iron-workers and their wealthy masters, our route starts from Cyfarthfa Castle (Postcode CF47 8RE) at 9:30am and heads down over the river Taff to the site of the old Cyfarthfa ironworks before heading up the Taff Trail along a green corridor out of town. Along the way you'll pass the Cefn Coed viaduct and see sections of the disused Brecon & Merthyr railway line. Calling in at Vaynor Church, the route then loops back down along the banks of the delightful cascading Taf Fechan river, and back to the start point.
This is a 7.5 mile level 7 walk and is expected to take around 4 hours. Wear appropriate footwear and clothes to suit the weather and also bring along a drink and snack too.
