About this Event

Event Overview

Cyber security is no longer just an IT issue.

It’s a leadership responsibility.

Yet many business owners and directors are still left asking:

  • If my data is in the cloud, is it actually secure?
  • If I use third-party software, who is responsible for my data — me or the provider?
  • Does outsourcing IT remove my liability?
  • Would my insurance policy genuinely respond after an attack?
  • What does “good” actually look like for my business?

This breakfast session is designed to provide clarity — without jargon and without alarmism.

Hosted by Alan Jenkins, internationally recognised cyber security expert and former Royal Air Force Police specialist, this event brings together Secarma’s cyber security team and leading insurance professionals for a practical, board-level conversation.

About Alan Jenkins

Alan has operated at the forefront of cyber security for over two decades.

Beginning his career within the Royal Air Force Police, he was involved in countering early state-sponsored cyber threats, including disrupting the 2003 Chinese cyber attack. During this period, he contributed to the development of operational standards and governance approaches that helped shape modern cyber defence frameworks.

Since then, Alan has worked internationally with organisations including T-Systems, Babcock, IBM and Hitachi, advising on cyber resilience, governance and strategic risk management.

Today, he works directly with business leaders to translate complex cyber risk into practical, proportionate decisions that protect operations, reputation and growth.

He will guide this session to ensure it remains grounded in business reality — not technical theory.

Why This Matters

Many businesses assume:

“We’re too small to be targeted.”
“Our IT provider handles that.”
“Our data is in Microsoft 365 or cloud software, so it’s backed up.”
“We’ve never had an issue.”

In reality:

  • Outsourcing IT does not outsource legal responsibility.
  • Cloud platforms operate under a shared responsibility model.
  • Insurance claims increasingly depend on demonstrable controls being in place.

Strong cyber governance is now influencing insurance premiums, supplier onboarding and contract awards.

Understanding your position is no longer optional — it’s part of running a modern business responsibly.

What We’ll Cover
  • What Cyber Essentials really means — and whether your business needs it
  • Lessons from high-profile breaches such as Marks & Spencer and Jaguar Land Rover
  • The shared responsibility model in the cloud
  • How insurers assess cyber exposure today
  • The difference between compliance and genuine protection
  • What proportionate cyber maturity looks like for a growing business
  • Chance to network with businesses in the same position

Clear guidance.
Commercial perspective.
Practical next steps.

The Cyber Clarity Review

Every attendee will be offered access to a Cyber Clarity Review following the event.

A limited number of in-person Executive Reviews will be available for leadership teams seeking a structured, board-level view of their cyber exposure and maturity.

Others will receive access to a digital Business Snapshot assessment — helping you sense-check where you stand and identify immediate priority actions.

The objective is simple:

To replace uncertainty with informed decision-making.

You will leave knowing:

✔ Where responsibility truly sits
✔ Whether your cloud data is properly protected
✔ What your insurer expects
✔ What your top three priority actions should be

Cyber security is no longer a technical problem.

It is a leadership decision.

Join Alan and our expert panel to understand the risk, know what matters, and take confident action for your business.

You will sleep better afterwards knowing that there are practical steps you can take to mitigate the risks to your business. We’re here to help support you on the journey ahead, working with you and your business, your IT team or 3rd party service provider as needed.
