Summer artist-in-residence Erica Podwoiski invites you to paint with light! Cyanotype is one of the oldest forms of camera-less photography that utilizes a simple mix of nontoxic chemicals exposed under UV light to create images in a range of brilliant blue hues.
Bring $10 to purchase a white shirt if you would like to cyanotype on a white shirt!
In this family-friendly afternoon workshop, we’ll collaborate with the sun to make our own cyanotypes on paper. Participants will be guided step-by-step through the process of printing, which begins by placing objects on paper pre-coated with cyanotype solution.
Pressed flowers and other miscellaneous materials will be provided, but attendees are also encouraged to bring their own found objects to print. Almost anything that is relatively flat can be printed- from botanicals, feathers and lace to keys, jewelry, tools, toys, plastic packing materials and more! (Objects will not be damaged through the process of printing.)
Erica will also share her cyanotype process that incorporates traditional drawing techniques. In addition to making their own prints, participants will be invited to contribute to a collaborative moth portrait for display in the resident artist’s culminating exhibition in September.
