Abstract

An overview of currently English policy on flood risk management and how we respond to the climate emergency, as well as how this translates into local action.

About

Tom Dauben is a senior technical advisor for the Environment Agency, working out how to deliver flood and climate resilience to communities around Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. His role involves development of strategic plans to deliver the concepts of adaptation and resilience both through EA capital programmes and projects and embedding it in the work of partners. Tom has contributed to work on national flooding policy for England and is responsible for translating this to Devon. He has approximately 20 years of experience in large scale capital projects ranging from defending nuclear power stations from tsunami risks to the deployment of nature based solutions in National Parks in Devon. In the past he has worked on a variety of innovative projects, such as the use of AI in flood engagement and he is currently the EA lead for the Devon Resilience Innovation Project.
