About this Event

Join the Commonwealth War Graves Commission for a free tour of Lincoln (St Swithin's) Cemetery, led by one of our experienced volunteer tour guides.

MEETING POINT is outside crematorium car park.

Hear about the work of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission and stories of some of the men and women that are commemorated in this cemetery.

The 6 acre cemetery was opened in 1890 by the Parish of St Swithin to cater for the burials from its rapidly expanding parish. It has a pleasing mortuary chapel and is situated on a gently sloping site with the backdrop of Lincoln Cathedral up on its hill to the north. The cemetery contains 25 War Graves and wide variety of memorials.

The tour lasts approx. 75 mins and covers about 1600 metres on paths and grass with uneven ground.

Parking is available in the crematorium car park. There are on-site facilities and toilets. Please bring water if required.

Please dress for the weather and wear suitable footwear.

Well behaved dogs on a lead are allowed in the cemetery.

Please note there can be last minute cancellations. This can be due to various reasons including illness, site issues and weather. We will email you as soon as we can, but this could include the morning of the tour, so please check your emails prior to leaving for the tour.

The Commonwealth War Graves Foundation (CWGF) aims to actively engage all communities with the work of the CWGC by telling the inspiring stories through education and outreach projects.

The CWGF is an independent charity registered with the Charity Commission of England and Wales (1171947) and Scotland (SC051982).
