MEETING POINT is by the gate entrance on London Road

Leigh-on-Sea Cemetery is a historic site in Essex containing 31 Commonwealth War Graves - 27 from WWI and 4 from WWII. It is described as a "mortuary gem," and offers a quiet atmosphere, with many graves still visited and adorned with flowers.

While the nearby St Clement's Church in Old Leigh contains much older, historically significant burials of captains and sailors, the London Road cemetery serves as the primary, larger, and more modern cemetery for the community.

The tours last approx. 75 mins and covers about 600 metres on grass with uneven ground.

There are no facilities on site, so please bring water if required.

The cemetery is situated on the main London Road (A13), next to West Leigh Junior School, making it a central, accessible site for the town. There is limited parking available.

Please dress appropriately for the weather and wear suitable footwear.

Dogs are not allowed on site.

Please note there can be last minute cancellations. This can be due to various reasons including illness, site issues and weather. We will email you as soon as we can but this could include the morning of the tour, so please check your emails prior to leaving for the tour.

The Commonwealth War Graves Foundation (CWGF) aims to actively engage all communities with the work of the CWGC by telling the inspiring stories through education and outreach projects.

The CWGF is an independent charity registered with the Charity Commission of England and Wales (1171947) and Scotland (SC051982).
