Join the Commonwealth War Graves Commission for a free tour of Bradford (Bowling) Cemetery, led by one of our experienced volunteer tour guides.

MEETING POINT is at the Cross of Sacrifice in the middle of the cemetery. What3words //risks.gasp.posed
During the tour there will be discussions about the research and information linked to those who served in WW1; some on the Western Front, those who succumbed to the flu epidemic, along with the awarding of a Distinguished Conduct Medal and Military Medal for bravery in battle on land.
There will be an opportunity to see a range of the different regiments and corps including those with shared graves.
In WW2 discussions include 2 local young women from the ATS and WAAF, along with those casualties who are buried a long way from home. You will be able to see an IWM copy of Nurse Orams ‘Autograph book’ containing pictures, poems, and memories from casualties in the nearby Bradford War Hospital from WW, along with medal cards.
There will be the opportunity to see some casualties who have a private memorial and are remembered with their families
The tour last approx. 60 mins and covers about 300 metres on paths and grass with uneven ground.
Parking is available in the broader routes in the cemetery, visitors are advised to use the Burras Road entrance off Bowling Hall Road as the Sangster Way gates are sometimes locked. There are no on-site facilities or toilets, but there are coffee shops and a large supermarket nearby. Please bring water if required.
Please come dressed for the weather and wear suitable footwear.
Well behaved dogs on a lead are welcome in the cemetery.
Please note there can be last minute cancellations. This can be due to various reasons including illness, site issues and weather. We will email you as soon as we can, but this could include the morning of the tour, so please check your emails prior to leaving for the tour.
