Wimborne Minster cemetery which firt began operating in the 1800's, is in the care of Wimborne Minster Town Council and has a dedicated web site https://wimbornecemetery.co.uk/ where there is more about the history and notable interments. The grounds are particularly well maintained and cared for and has some stunning views from the highest point looking over the town. When you enter the cemetery through an arch attached to the Sexton’s house you can see a gentle slope upwards with beautiful trees guiding the eye up to the top of the cemetery. We will look at the lives, service and families of some of the 44 casualties lying here from both World Wars. If you came on earlier tours in 2025 some of the same stories may be used but more details are likely to have been discovered.
The tour lasts approx. 60 mins and covers about 1500 metres on paths and grass with sloping and uneven ground.
Parking is available at Walford Mill public car park, about 10 minute walk from cemetery.
There are no on site facilities but toilets are available but not accessable to wheelchairs. Please bring water if required.
Please dress for the weather and wear suitable footwear.
Only assistance dogs are allowed in the cemetery.
Please note there can be last minute cancellations. This can be due to various reasons including illness, site issues and weather. We will email you as soon as we can but this could include the morning of the tour, so please check your emails prior to leaving for the tour.
The Commonwealth War Graves Foundation (CWGF) aims to actively engage all communities with the work of the CWGC by telling the inspiring stories through education and outreach projects.
