MEETING POINT at the Cross of Sacrifice at rear of the cemetery.

During the 1939-1945 War, two pieces of ground were set aside by the local authorities for service war burials which together constitute the War Graves Plot and contain 76 burials. The remainder are scattered elsewhere. The 42 buried in Section F include 30 victims of a naval disaster which occured off St. Ann's Head on the night of 25th April 1943, when H.M. Landing Craft Gun, 15 and 16, making the voyage from Belfast, capsized in a heavy sea and 73 of their officers and men lost their lives. Many of the bodies were not recovered, and not all of those recovered could be identified. There are now nearly 30, 1914-1918 and almost 100, 1939-1945 war casualties commemorated in this site, 24 are unidentified.

The tour lasts approx. 60 mins and covers about 600 metres on paths and grass with uneven ground and slopes.

There is limited parking outside the cemetery gates in a layby. There are no facilities or toilets on site. Please bring water if required.

Please dress for the weather and wear suitable footwear.

Well behaved dogs on a lead are welcome in the cemetery.

Please note there can be last minute cancellations. This can be due to various reasons including illness, site issues and weather. We will email you as soon as we can, but this could include the morning of the tour, so please check your emails prior to leaving for the tour.

The Commonwealth War Graves Foundation (CWGF) aims to actively engage all communities with the work of the CWGC by telling the inspiring stories through education and outreach projects.

The CWGF is an independent charity registered with the Charity Commission of England and Wales (1171947) and Scotland (SC051982).
