Join the Commonwealth War Graves Commission for a free tour of Alton Cemetery, led by one of our experienced volunteer tour guides.

Hear about the work of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission and stories of some of the men and women that are commemorated in this cemetery.
The cemetery has a number of Commonwealth Graves from both World Wars and from both the Army and Navy, including a VC winner , Commander Augustus Arger. There are also commemorations to soldiers killed who are buried abroad, and the grave of Fanny Adams who was brutally murdered.
The tour lasts approx. 45 mins and covers about 800 metres on paths and grass with uneven ground. There is wheelchair access.
There is very limited parking available on-site. There are no facilities or toilets on site. Please bring water if required.
Please dress for the weather and wear suitable footwear.
Only assistance dogs are allowed in the cemetery
Please note there can be last minute cancellations. This can be due to various reasons including illness, site issues and weather. We will email you as soon as we can, but this could include the morning of the tour, so please check your emails prior to leaving for the tour.
